Vision and Mission

HISTORY OF EUPATI   

The European Patients’ Academy on Therapeutic Innovation (EUPATI) was funded by the Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI) from February 2012 to January 2017. EUPATI aimed to   encourage the understanding and the involvement of patients in the medicines development process, in collaboration of all relevant stakeholders.

The main objectives of the consortium, led by the European Patients’ Forum (EPF), which includes patients’ organisations, academic groups, NGOs and pharmaceutical companies were to:

• Develop and disseminate accessible, well-structured, comprehensive, scientifically reliable and user-friendly educational material for patients on the processes of medicines research and development.
• Increase the capacity of “patient experts” and well-informed patients in patient organisations to be effective advocates and advisors in medicines research and development.
• Empower patients to provide appropriate patient-relevant advice and insight to industry, academia, establishments and ethics committees.

Since August 2020, EUPATI is registered as an independent non-Profit foundation in the Netherlands

MISSION OF EUPATI:

EUPATI focuses on education and training to increase the capacity and capability of patients to contribute effectively to the research and development of medicines in collaboration with all relevant stakeholders (patients, decision making centres and industry) 

Today EUPATI has 23 National platforms in Europe and Japan.

ΜISSION EUPATI CYPRUS:

As patients are experts in their disease, they should be involved in the decision-making processes that affect healthcare in Cyprus. The mission of EUPATI Cyprus is to educate, empower and enable the patient to be involved in healthcare policymaking and in the decision -making processes which affect the patients’ lives.

VISION: 

To enhance  education and empower the patient  to undertake  a more active role in all stages of the R&D process  and  in advocacy . To encourage the dialogue between all different stakeholders (Patients , Industry , Regulators , Policy makers )  and foster successful  parternships for optimum patient- centric care .

 OBJECTIVES:

• Raise awareness about the EUPATI project and its results at a national level;
• Disseminate EUPATI educational and training material to patient leaders and to the general public;
• Grow the EUPATI network nationally and stimulate patients to get involved in EUPATI activities;
• Foster national debate on patient involvement in medicines research and development;
• Establish the National Platform as a sustainable partnership, and a key interlocutor for government when developing relevant health research legislation, policy and practice.
